<abstract>
Objective: The present study aimed to determine the effect of emotional reactivity on the tendency to use drugs with the mediating role of rumination in substance-dependent individuals.
Methods: The study was applied in terms of objective, and descriptive-correlational in terms of nature and method, using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM). The statistical population included all 3 (2024/2025). From this population, a sample of 380 individuals was selected using convene men with substance use disorder who were undergoing treatment and rehabilitation in medium-term residential centers (addiction treatment camps) in Karaj city in the year 140nce sampling. The research instruments included the 21-item Emotional Reactivity Scale (ERS) by R. K. Nock et al. (2008), the 22-item Rumination Response Scale (RRS) by Susan Nolen-Hoeksema & J. Marro (1991), and the 16-item Addiction Tendency Questionnaire by Farjad (1385 Iranian calendar year). The bootstrap method was used for data analysis.
Results: The results of the statistical analysis showed that emotional reactivity has a significant effect on the tendency to use drugs. The findings indicate that rumination, as a destructive cognitive mechanism, enhances the effect of emotional sensitivities on the propensity for drug use.
Conclusions: In fact, individuals with high emotional reactivity use drugs as a strategy to alleviate psychological pain due to their inability to manage repetitive thoughts. Therefore, it is suggested that interventions based on reducing rumination and emotion regulation should be prioritized in the treatment programs of drug rehabilitation centers.
</abstract>
